Philanthropy
Here in Emporia the Kansas Epsilon chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is committed to helping the community and giving back!
Teeter Totter is Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Alpha’s annual philanthropy put on every Fall semester where the men and women stay up for 36 straight hours and ride a giant Teeter Totter in the front yard of SigEp’s house. They also have members stand on the corner of 12th and Exchange taking donations which all go to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Center for Early Childhood Education(CECE), and Survivors of Sexual and Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, and Neglect. 2016 was the 29th year that the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the women of Alpha Sigma Alpha have done this and for the first time ever they broke the $3,000 mark, raising a total of $3,112.89 in just 36 hours.
Every year the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon have hosted a haunted house for the women of Sigma Sigma Sigma by turning their house into one! In 2013, the two houses decided to join together and do the haunted house together! The haunted house is now turned into a canned food drive for Corky's Cupboard. For the small cost of the donation of a nonperishable food item, you can come and have a great scare. This event is held annually around Halloween and has helped donate a great deal of food since its start up.
